Lost Luggage

The airline lost my luggage.

So I don’t know where it happened.  I suspect it may have been all the way in Toronto when Northwest Airlines put us on the plane, off the plane, rescheduled us and then crammed us into the tiniest plane I have ever been on.

Or maybe it was my second flight from Minnesota to Los Angeles when I met the two guys on their big trip to Las Vegas. It would be really sad if one of them did not have their luggage for their holiday weekend.

I love Air Pacific so I don’t want to blame it on them. After all they gave me champagne when we arrived, how could an airline that gives champagne also lose luggage.

The only good thing about losing your luggage is when you realize other people have lost theirs as well and you immediately become good friends. There was a small cluster of us huddling together, praying that the bags would come out.

Then the luggage carousel stopped. There would be no luggage for us.

But I must say the customer service was really good. Someone from Air Pacific immediate came out to say that we did not need to fear about lost luggage, that Air Pacific knew exactly where it was.

It was in Los Angeles.

I guess all of our bags were somewhere together in a container and someone forgot to put this container on the plane. But we felt reassured that at least they knew where it was and they promised it would come to us the next day.

This was actually good news for me because I was only planning to spend 3 days in Fiji to get over my jetlag and I really didn’t want to drag my big backpack around. I told them I was heading to a resort but would be continuing my flight in a few days.

Could they hold it for me?

Of course they could. My champagne-loving airline won me over once again so I left thinking I was a lucky passenger. Although I can’t say the same for the others, they were happy to see the luggage wasn’t lost, but they wanted it now.
